You will find plenty of restaurants serving up local fare in Castelo de Vide, Portagem, or Marvão. Here are some of our favourite spots:

Doces & Companhia in Castelo de vide is a nice spot to enjoy an espresso and a traditional pastry with a view of the village from their upstairs veranda (or the main square from their downstairs patio).  They  also offer a daily selection of affordable dishes.

À do Ferro is a tavern serving up excellent regional dishes and wines in Portalegre. this restaurant has a welcoming and quiet indoor atmosphere , when the weather does not permit to dine outside.

Restaurnate Ammaia is close to Portagem, by the roman ruins. this Restaurant tops our list for best food in the area. It also has a lovely ambiance.

Hotel Sever Rio in Portagem has a beautiful patio overseeing Marvão Castle at the edge of  the Sever river, and offers an extensive variety of local appetizers, traditional dishes and deserts. This restaurant is one of the more elegant ones in the area (and accordingly priced).

Churrasqueira Sever is a bit of a hidden spot in Portagem with a very large shaded patio in the back, serving a large variety of charcoal grilled meat and fish dishes, as well as some regional dishes. Do not be misled my the website linked on google, it mistakenly leads to the Hotel Sever Rio website.
